Under the AI Hood
OpenAI
Premier industry leader OpenAI took the game up a notch with the launch of search functionality for ChatGPT. In an October 31 post, OpenAI revealed that ChatGPT can search the web by itself or via a user request.
ChatGPT's premium users have structured access. Free users will get a taste a few months from now.
Alphabet-owned Google continued its internal AI push with Gemini integrations. The search engine giant revealed the deployment of its leading chatbot into its Google Maps ecosystem.
Furthermore, the two billion-plus platform now includes AI-powered search queries that improve interactions.
Meta/People's Republic of China
Social network behemoth Meta also beefed up its search game by developing further search capabilities for its interlinked platforms. According to an October 28 The Information report, the web crawling-focused tool will answer user queries from WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.
Moreover, Meta depends on Bing and Google to find answers to search queries.
In related news, premier Chinese military research institutions have used Meta's Llama model to create an AI platform for military uses. According to a November 1 Reuters report, researchers from several institutions, including the PLA's Academy of Military Science (AMS), used an earlier Llama version as a foundation for a solution called "ChatBIT."
Industry Dive
Professional networking giant LinkedIn introduced "Hiring Assistant," a recruitment-focused AI agent. The offering is a recruitment-focused tool that aims to streamline and improve the hiring process.
Furthermore, several enterprise customers are early adopters of Hiring Assistants.
NVIDIA/Run:ai/The European Union
Chipmaker NVIDIA's Run:ai acquisition hit a few snags with the EU's antitrust regulators. On October 31, the European Commission revealed that NVIDIA would need the appropriate permissions from regulatory agencies because of the threat posed by the proposed deal.
Nvidia revealed intentions to acquire Run:ai in April.
Bank of England
According to an October 31 Financial Times report, banks across the pond in the United Kingdom could have their using of AI systems tested. Bank of England deputy governor Sarah Breeden indicated that AI risks could be a part of (upcoming) stress tests.
Breeden also indicated that the central bank will not change its approach toward GenAI regulatory efforts.

Ukraine
The Russia-Ukraine situation has taken another dimension. According to an October 30 Reuters report, there is a plethora of locally invented AI-based systems that guide drones toward Russian targets.
Consequently, Ukrainians are increasingly using automated drones to beat signal jamming and other forms of electronic warfare.
Coventry University/ The Socialist Republic of VietNam/Hanoi University of Science and Technology
Educators in Northern Vietnam now have access to AI-developed tools thanks to GameAid, a project that trains educators about AI's advantages. Researchers from Coventry University, led by Associate Professor Petros Lameras, introduced the platform.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology contributed to the project.
Robert Downey Jr.
Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. has indicated that he will sue any executives who use AI-generated versions of him. During a podcast interview, Downey (also) iterated that despite his death, the legal agency to take action will still exist.
Moreover, he believed that Marvel would not create AI versions of him without adequate permissions.
Following the Money
xAI
The Elon Musk-backed xAI is on an upward trajectory. According to an October 29 Wall Street Journal report, xAI is (allegedly) in talks to raise (additional) funding that could push its valuation from $24 billion to $40 billion.
Lumen Orbit/NVIDIA
Y Combinator Summer debutante Lumen Orbit made waves by securing over $10 million to build space-based data centers. Lumen and NVIDIA have also partnered to achieve the goal of building data centers beyond the sky.
Spot AI
Video AI agent startup Spot AI raised $31 million in a funding round that included Qualcomm Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, StepStone Group, and other investors.
Spot AI also launched its video agent platform that connects digital and physical realities via an automated bridge.
