Google/DeepMind/DeepMind
Google continued to innovate with several developments. The search engine giant unveiled an AI-powered feature that enables search by video through its "AI Overviews." Additionally, Google enabled ads in "AI Overviews."
In an October 3 post, Google also revealed methods marketers can use by combining "AI Overviews" and "Google Lens" to increase sales and conversions.
Similarly, at a recent Nobel Foundation event, Google's AI chief, Sir Demis Hassabis, unveiled the creation of an AI-powered scientific assistant in partnership with BioNTech. Details regarding the roles of either party remain unclear.
Microsoft
The "AI assistant" conversation continued to dominate. In a recent BBC interview, Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman made some startling revelations.
Suleyman indicated AI assistants with great long-term memory will debut next year. Additionally, he iterated that co-pilots will (soon) be part of everyday life.
Accenture/NVIDIA
Professional services behemoth Accenture and NVIDIA continued to hit new milestones. The duo revealed improvements to their (current) collaboration.
On October 2, the pair announced the launch of the AI adoption-focused Nvidia business group. The ecosystem will deploy the "Accenture AI Refinery" platform to create a platform that enables clients to develop AI Agents.
In related news, in an October 3 CNBC interview, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang revealed exponential demand for the firm's "Blackwell" AI chip.
Industry Dive
OpenAI
According to an October 1 Reuters report, ChatGPT maker OpenAI introduced tools that enable developers to build AI voice assistants faster. OpenAI revealed an instantaneous solution that enables the deployment of a single code set.
Furthermore, OpenAI released (additional) tools that optimize model responses (including human feedback).
SAP/The European Union (EU)
Regulatory efforts across the pond in the EU continued to cause ripples between the government and the private sector. In a recent statement to the Financial Times, SAP Chief Christian Klein raised several issues about the EU's (regulatory) approach.
Klein stressed that while he's not opposed to industry regulation, a light approach will foster innovation, but the reverse will stifle its development.
Samsung
Surprisingly, Korean multinational Samsung took a bite of the AI cake with an announcement. The electronics behemoth announced the mass production of "PM9E1," a (PCle 5.0 SSD) hard drive that improves the efficiency of AI applications.
The drive has improved read and write speeds of (up to) 14.5GB/s and 13GB/s.
Everything Else
Plymouth City Council (United Kingdom)
Traffic offense violators across the pond in the United Kingdom will have a hard time escaping the law thanks to AI. The Plymouth City Council revealed the deployment of AI-powered cameras detects several traffic violations, including the use of mobile phones and seatbelt-free drivers.
The automated decisions are also subject to manual reviews.
Elon Musk/xAI/OpenAI
Leading innovator Elon Musk (reportedly) aimed his former darling at an xAI party that he hosted at OpenAI's former headquarters. Free food and drinks and AI-generated, code-produced music were available for the audience that had software engineers and other tech experts (in attendance).
At the event, Musk called on the audience to join xAI to foster industry innovation. Several of the attendees of the October 1 event had OpenAI backpacks.
Credo AI/Fei-Fei Li
Industry godmother Fei-Fei Li continued to push boundaries at the October 3 Credo AI responsible AI leadership summit. Fei-Fei Li referred to commonly used terms, including "AI singularity" and "AGI," as ambiguous.
Li also revealed that she was "just as lost" as everyone about the precise definitions of the terms and promoted World Labs, her latest venture.
Following the Money
OpenAI
Again, OpenAI led the pack by securing $6.6 billion in a funding round that valued the firm at $157 billion. In an October 2 post, the ChatGPT maker revealed that over 250 million people (globally) use the solution across several industries.
Microsoft
We moved across the pond to Italy, where Microsoft made a massive €4.3 billion investment announcement (approximately $4.8 billion). The software giant revealed the two-year plan to expand its Northern Italy cloud infrastructure.
Poolside SAS AI
Stateside, AI coding startup Poolside grabbed $500 million in a Series B funding round. Bain Capital Ventures led the round. Other investors include Citi Ventures, DST Global, NVIDIA, StepStone Group, and HSBC Ventures.
